Tennis

The tennis program at St. Albans is a thriving community with many team, league, clinic and social opportunities to play for players of all abilities. Our pros and staff are highly skilled and friendly and foster a positive environment. St. Albans has eight courts (four hard surface and four har-tru), a hitting wall and a ball machine. All are welcome to perfect their skill, learn a new hobby and make new friends!

OUR TENNIS PROFESSIONALS

Phil Hahn

Phil has been the head pro at St. Albans since 2016. Phil grew up locally, attended Saint Joe’s Prep for high school and competed in national level tennis tournaments through age 16. After graduating from Penn State in 2006 with a business degree, he went on to work at Bryn Mawr Delaware Valley tennis in 2007. He was named director in 2009 and worked there until 2012. Thereafter, Phil established a small business offering clients private tennis lessons. In 2015, Phil completed his nursing degree from Drexel University. Instead of pursuing a career in nursing, he obtained his USPTA coaching certification and uses his energetic teaching style and enthusiasm for the game of tennis to engage and encourage players on the courts at St. Albans.

Amanda has been teaching tennis on the Main Line for over 10 years. A graduate of Philadelphia University with a degree in finance, Amanda holds records in both singles and doubles. After graduation, Amanda worked at Radnor Valley Country Club as Junior Tennis Director. Amanda is entering her third year at St. Albans. She brings a fun and energetic style to all of her teaching, and enjoys working with juniors and adults of all levels. She also runs and manages multiple tennis teams.

Women’s Tennis

TEAMS

St. Albans has teams of all abilities in many leagues year round. In the summer, teams participate in the Women's Inter-club Tennis Association of Philadelphia. Currently the club has five teams in this league which plays for seven weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays. USTA teams run all year in various indoor facilities and the club also fields teams for the Deltri Suburban Tennis League which plays on Fridays from October through March. There is also a mixed doubles team that plays on Sunday mornings.

SOCIAL PLAY

There are many opportunities to play socially at St. Albans. Round robins as well as mixed doubles play are organized from Spring through Fall. Many socials are also hosted Spring through Fall and all members are welcome! All players are welcome to play in the many tennis events including the VASS and Davis Cup contests and monthly mixers.

CLINICS

Our tennis pros offer daily clinics focusing on many aspects of play.  Private group and individual lessons are also available and may be scheduled with the pros directly.

Men’s Tennis

TEAMS

St. Albans fields 3 men's tennis teams:

  • Night league for 3.5 + level players (Thursdays)

  • A Division 1 and 2 team (Saturdays)

  • Mixed doubles team (Sunday mornings)

SOCIAL PLAY

Junior Tennis

TEAMS

St. Albans hosts Junior Interclub and USTA teams for varying age groups and abilities from Spring through Fall.  Team Practices are held during the season.

CLINICS

Our tennis pros offer clinics from the Spring through Fall.  Team practices and private lessons are also available.  

CAMP

Full and half-day summer tennis camps are available all summer long!

ST. ALBANS TENNIS RULES

Tennis Courts

1.      Members wishing to use the tennis courts during the hours the pool is closed or off-season are required to pay the Tennis Activity Fee each year.  

2.      Participants on the Men’s, Women’s or Mixed tennis teams are required to pay the Tennis Activity Fee. 

3.      All members can use the tennis courts during the regular Club hours (11:00AM – 8:00 PM) without paying the Tennis Activity Fee.

4.      Members bringing guests for tennis during off-hours should pay the $10 guest fee for their guests at the Tennis Complex with a Pro or Tennis Attendant.  During pool hours, all guests should pay the guest fee at the Front Desk when checking in. All guests are required to sign the Waiver of Guest Liability Form and register in the Pike13 system.

5.     Tennis court usage is prohibited before 8:00 AM.

6.     Tennis court etiquette is expected at all times. Proper tennis attire is required and approved tennis shoes must be worn.

7.     During the offseason, members are asked to sweep the Har-Tru courts when play is completed.

Court Reservations 

1.     Members who pay the Tennis Activity Fee can reserve courts one week in advance using the Pike13 online system.  

2.     All other active members may utilize the courts on a standby basis during regular Club hours.  

3.     When all courts are in use, the Tennis Attendant will manage a waiting list.  

4.     Reservations are limited to one (1) hour for singles and one and one-half (1 ½) hours for doubles.
